If your school uses alternate dismissals, certain passes and activities can automatically change a student's dismissal for that day: for example an early pickup, a late activity, or an all-day absence.
Setting it up on a pass type
This works on Early Dismissal, Full Day Absence, Multi-day Absence and Custom pass types.
Edit the pass type. You'll see an extra step called Dismissal Settings (Optional).
Switch on Enable Dismissal Override.
Choose a Dismissal type:
• Full Day Absent: no dismissal needed. The student shows as Not Required.
• Early Dismissal: the student leaves at the pass start time.
• Late Dismissal: the student leaves at the pass end time.For early and late dismissals, choose the Alternate Dismissal Transport Options: the ways home students can use on those days. You need to pick at least one.
Setting it up for imported activities
For imported (CSV) activities: go to the list of event passes. Each Imported activity type has a Dismissal Settings link, with a ✓ once it's set up. Students attending those activities move to an alternate dismissal for the day.
What happens on the day
All-day absence: the student shows as Not Required. They're not expected at pickup and appear in their own group on the board.
Early or late pass: the student shows as an alternate dismissal, under the Alternate Dismissal Students tab. If the pass type has allowed transport options, the pass can also set how they get home. Parents may be asked to choose a Dismissal Transport when they request the pass.
Activities: when a student is opted in to an activity, staff can choose the transport for it too (from the activity type's allowed options). The choice can apply to this event only or all upcoming events of this activity.
Opting out of an activity: on the student's record, staff can use Opt out of event. Orah asks "Opt [name] out of [activity]?" and explains "They return to their regular dismissal on the days they are opted out." This option is for activities only, not passes.
If a student has more than one pass on the same day
an all-day pass wins;
otherwise the earliest early departure wins;
otherwise the latest late departure wins.
Passes and activities can update the board even after the dismissal has been activated, until the student is dismissed. Cancelling a pass after a student has been dismissed doesn't change the record. It shows what actually happened.
Transport conflicts
If the red Transport conflicts filter on the board shows a number, that many students on an early or late pass or activity have a transport that isn't one of the allowed options for that pass or activity. Click it to see who, and pick an allowed transport.
The Alternate Dismissals Board
One board per pass type or activity, showing every student leaving early or late because of it, across all schedules. Open it from My Schedule. Transport Arrival isn't available on this board.
