Advisory Sections Aren’t Syncing in Orah from Blackbaud? Here’s How to Fix It

Updated over a week ago

If you notice that Advisory Sections aren’t appearing in Orah after a sync, you may see a warning like:

“Unable to sync advisorySections. This requires additional permissions.”

This article explains why this happens, what it means for your data, and how to resolve it so Advisory Sections sync successfully.

What’s Happening

Your Orah integration is working—but it doesn’t yet have permission to access Advisory Section data.

Orah connects to your SIS using an authorized account. If that account doesn’t have access to advisory-related data, Orah can’t pull Advisory Sections during the sync.

When this happens:

  • The sync continues to run successfully

  • Most data syncs as expected

  • Advisory Sections are skipped until the required permission is added

Why Reauthorizing Alone Doesn’t Fix It

Reauthorizing the integration refreshes the connection, but it does not change data access.

If the account used to connect Orah doesn’t have permission to read Advisory Sections, reauthorizing won’t unlock that data. The correct permission must be added first.

How to Fix the Issue

You’ll need help from an administrator in the system Orah is connected to.

What to Do

  1. Identify the account that was used when the Orah integration was first authorized

  2. Ask your system administrator to add the advisory-related permission required for API access

  3. Once the permission is added, return to Orah

  4. Re-run the sync

After this, Advisory Sections should appear in Orah as expected.

Don’t See an “Advisory” Permission?

That’s okay—permission names can vary depending on your system setup.

If you’re unsure which permission enables Advisory Sections:

  • Reach out to your SIS support team

  • Ask them to confirm which API permission allows access to Advisory or Advisory Group data

  • Have that permission applied to the account connected to Orah

What You’ll See Once It’s Fixed

After the correct permission is added:

  • Advisory Sections will sync automatically on the next run

  • No additional configuration is required in Orah

  • The warning will no longer appear
