Visitor Aware Integration – Kiosk (iPad) Setup Guide

This article walks administrators through setting up the Visitor Aware iPad kiosk, including login, printer pairing, location assignment, and security configuration for visitor check-ins.

The Visitor Aware kiosk enables schools to manage on-site visitor check-ins through a dedicated iPad device integrated with Orah.

Visitors can:

  • Capture facial photos

  • Scan government ID (US only)

  • Be screened against security databases

  • Print visitor badges

🧭 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Install the Kiosk App

  1. Open the App Store on the iPad

  2. Search for Visitor Aware Check-In Kiosk

  3. Download and install the app

MDM Note:

If deploying via Jamf, Mosyle, Kandji, etc., enable:

  • Single App Mode / Guided Access

    This prevents visitors from exiting the kiosk.


Step 2: Log in to the Kiosk

  1. Open the app

  2. Tap Login

  3. Enter your admin email

  4. Enter the login token sent via email


Step 3: Assign the Kiosk Location

  1. Press and hold the ⚙️ Gear icon

  2. Enter the kiosk passcode

  3. Go to Location Settings

  4. Select the school/building


Step 4: Connect the Badge Printer

On the Printer

  1. Power on

  2. Go to Template Settings → Turn OFF Template Mode

  3. Enable Bluetooth

On the iPad

  1. Exit the kiosk app

  2. Open iPad Bluetooth settings

  3. Pair the printer

In the App

  1. Press and hold ⚙️ Gear icon

  2. Go to Printer Settings

  3. Select:

    • Brother Printer

    • Bluetooth Printer

  4. Run a Test Print


Step 5: Configure Display Options

  1. Press and hold ⚙️ Gear icon

  2. Open Display Settings

  3. Enable/disable visitor types:

    • Visitors

    • Students

    • Volunteers

    • Deliveries


💡 Best Practices / Tips

  • Use Guided Access to lock the kiosk

  • Assign one kiosk per entrance

  • Test badge printing before launch

  • Use shared kiosk logins for front office teams


🔧 Troubleshooting

Printer not appearing

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled

  • Pair via iPad settings first

  • Restart the app

Cannot access settings

  • Press and hold the gear icon

  • Enter kiosk passcode

No locations available

  • Locations must be created in the admin portal first
