Student Mobile Number Verification (OTP)

This guide explains how student mobile number verification works in Orah and how admins can enable SMS verification so students confirm their phone number using a one-time password (OTP).

Updated this week

🧩 Overview

In Orah, mobile number verification confirms that a student’s phone number is valid by sending a one-time password (OTP) to their phone. The student enters the code to verify their number.

Mobile verification is separate from SMS delivery. Students can still receive SMS messages even if their number shows as Not Verified.

Why it matters

  • Helps schools confirm student phone numbers

  • Reduces incorrect or outdated numbers

  • Improves confidence that SMS messages reach students

Applies to:

✅ Admins

✅ IT / System Administrators

✅ Staff managing Passes

🧭 Step-by-Step Instructions

Enable SMS Verification on a Pass

  1. Go to Admin Console → Passes

  2. Select the pass you want to edit

  3. Open Form Builder

  4. Enable SMS Verification

  5. Click Save

After enabling this setting, students will be asked to verify their phone number the next time they submit that pass.

💡 Important Notes

  • Verification uses a one-time password (OTP) sent by SMS.

  • Students only need to verify once unless their phone number changes.

  • SMS messages can still be delivered even if the number is Not Verified.

  • Mobile numbers cannot be bulk verified.

💡 Best Practices / Tips

  • Enable SMS verification on frequently used student passes.

  • Use one main pass type for student requests so verification happens naturally.

  • Allow time for students to verify as they submit passes.
