Using RFID for Checkpoints & Attendance

Once RFID is configured, students can tap their card to check into checkpoints or record attendance without manually searching for their name.

RFID Checkpoints

RFID checkpoints allow students to quickly check in or check out of specific locations.

Examples include:

  • Health Center

  • Athletic Trainer

  • Library

  • Study Center

  • Learning Support

Student Check-In Workflow

  1. Student approaches the checkpoint.

  2. Student taps their RFID card on the reader.

  3. Orah identifies the student.

  4. The checkpoint action is completed.

  5. Any associated pass or location update is applied automatically.

Student Check-Out Workflow

  1. Student returns to the checkpoint.

  2. Student taps their RFID card again.

  3. Orah identifies the student.

  4. The checkpoint session ends.

  5. The student’s location is updated.

RFID Attendance

RFID can also be used with Automated Attendance workflows.

The exact attendance behaviour depends on your school’s attendance configuration, schedules, and attendance settings.

  1. When QR Code and External Scanner Mode is turned on.

  2. When only External Scanner is turned on

Attendance Requirements

For attendance to be recorded successfully, your school’s Automated Attendance setup must be correctly configured. In general:

  • The student must have a matching RFID identifier.

  • The student must have a scheduled class.

  • Attendance must be enabled for the checkpoint or attendance workflow.

Common Use Cases

Health Center

Students tap into the Health Center and are marked at that location based on the checkpoint configuration.

Athletic Trainer

Students tap into the Athletic Trainer checkpoint and are tracked while attending appointments based on the checkpoint configuration.

Homeroom Attendance

Students tap their card when arriving, and attendance can be recorded based on your school’s Automated Attendance configuration.
