How to Set Up πŸ› οΈ the Orah Checkpoint Day App for Campus Location Check-ins

The Orah Checkpoint Day app allows students at day schools to check in and out of key locations (like the Health Center) via kiosk devices. This guide walks you through the full setup process.

1. Prepare Your Location

  1. Go to Location Manager in your admin dashboard.

  2. Create or edit a location (e.g. Health Center).

  3. Enable:

    • βœ… User Interactive Location

    • βœ… Enable Kiosk Checkpoints

  4. Link the location to a relevant absence type under Check-In Rules > Open Pass required > Connected Open Passes (e.g. Health Center Absence).
This ensures students are forced to add a pass when they check in at Health Center.

    1. If a student already has an active pass from the open pass list, they will not be asked for a pass

    2. If a student has a scheduled pass for that location, they can activate or add a new pass directly from the CP from the open pass list

πŸ’‘ Tip: Only enable absences for locations that require an excuse.

2. Configure the Absence Workflow

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Absence Types.

  2. Select the absence linked to the location (e.g. Health Center).

  3. Under Workflow, allow actions for the Checkpoint Kiosk user role:

    • Activate Scheduled Absences

    • Create Absences

    • End Absences

This lets students manage their passes directly from the kiosk.

3. Set Up a Checkpoint Type

  1. Go to Checkpoints β†’ Checkpoint Types.

  2. Create a new type (e.g. Health Center Kiosk).

  3. Configure:

    • Background image

    • Permission rules (e.g. who can use the device)

    • Display settings

This defines the behaviour for all kiosks using this type.

4. Create a Checkpoint ID

  1. Go to Checkpoints β†’ Checkpoint IDs.

  2. Create a new Checkpoint ID and link it to:

    • The Health Center location

    • The Checkpoint Type you just created

  3. This Checkpoint ID will be used by the kiosk device to identify itself.

πŸ” One location can have multiple devices β€” just use separate IDs tied to the same type.

5. Download & Set Up the App

  1. On your kiosk device, download the Orah Checkpoint Day App from:

  2. Launch the app and:

    • Enter the Checkpoint ID

    • Confirm the linked location and type

    • Set a display name for the kiosk (optional)

Enable geolocation tracking when prompted.

6. Using the Kiosk (Student Experience)

  1. Students search for their name.

  2. To check in/out:

    • Select the location (e.g. Health Center)

    • If any pass is required for the Location, the pass list will be dispalyed

    • If any pass is scheduled for the location, it will be displayed

    • If a pass is already activated, the option to end the pass will be available

  3. The absence will automatically end or activate, depending on the selection and class expectations will update.
