๐งฉ Overview
Dose restriction warnings help prevent unsafe medication administration.
When staff attempt to record a dose that exceeds configured limits, the system displays a warning message.
These limits are configured in the Medication Catalog.
Types of dose restrictions
Two types of limits can be configured.
Per-administration limit
Restricts the maximum number of units that can be given in a single administration.
Example:
Maximum 2 tablets per administration
Rolling time window limit
Restricts how much medication can be administered within a time period.
Example:
Maximum 6 tablets within 24 hours
When warnings appear
Warnings appear during administration when the entered dose exceeds configured limits.
Two conditions trigger warnings:
Condition | Description |
Per-administration limit exceeded | Dose exceeds the maximum allowed per administration |
Time window limit exceeded | Total doses exceed the allowed amount within the configured time period |
Warning messages
Example warning:
The dose exceeds the maximum allowed of [n] units per administration.
If previous administrations exist, the message may include additional context.
Confirmation step
When a warning appears, staff must confirm before continuing.
Options:
Option | Result |
Still Administer | Continue with the administration |
Cancel Administration | Stop the process |
Important behaviour
Dose restriction warnings are informational.
They alert staff but do not block administration.
