Set the alert's trigger behaviour to Only once when criteria is first met, and set the Duration (time frame) to 1 day with Occurrences set to 1.
With this combination, the first time a student meets the alert criteria on a given day, one alert is sent. Any further matches for that same student and criteria on that same day are suppressed. A new alert can fire again the next day if the criteria is met again — the suppression resets with each new Duration window, it is not a one-time-ever alert.
