𧩠Overview
In Orah, parents connected to a student can view and endorse leave requests depending on their Parent Access settings and the leave workflow configuration.
Parent visibility controls what parents can see, while endorsements control what parents may be asked to approve.
These are separate settings, which means a parent with Restricted Visibility may still be asked to endorse a leave request in some situations.
Why it matters
Helps schools control what parents can view
Ensures endorsements go to the correct parent
Prevents confusion during leave approvals
Applies to:
β Admins
β Pastoral Managers
β Staff managing Leave Requests
Parent Visibility Settings
Restricted Parent Access controls what parents can see in the Orah Families app.
Unrestricted Visibility
Parents can view:
All leave requests
Full pass details
Host information
Restricted Visibility
Parents can only view:
Leave requests they personally submitted
They cannot see:
Other leave requests
Host details
Requests created by students or staff
Only Admins can change parent visibility settings.
Parent Endorsements
Leave workflows can require endorsements from different people, such as:
Parent endorsement
Host endorsement
Parent endorsements are sent to connected parent accounts in Orah.
Host endorsements are usually completed through a host email link.
Important: Restricted Parents May Still Endorse
A common assumption is that restricted parents will never be asked to endorse leave requests.
This is not always the case.
If a leave request requires a Parent endorsement, Orah looks for a connected parent account.
If only one parent is connected in Orah, that parent may still receive the endorsement request β even if they have Restricted Visibility.
Restricted visibility only controls what parents can see, not whether they can be selected as an endorser.
Example Scenario
A student submits a leave request that requires:
Host endorsement
Parent endorsement
Connected contacts:
One connected parent account (Restricted Visibility)
One parent not yet connected
One host contact
What happens:
The host receives the host endorsement request.
The system looks for a connected parent account.
The endorsement request is sent to the only connected parent.
The restricted parent can endorse the leave request.
The second parent will not receive endorsement requests until they are connected in Orah.
